Virtual Consultation Eligibility

Is a virtual consultation appropriate?

Future virtual consultations are being designed for focused guidance, records review, care navigation, and discussion of appropriate next steps. They are not intended for emergencies or concerns that clearly require immediate in-person care.

May Be Appropriate For

Patients seeking clarity and next-step guidance.

Persistent jaw pain, facial pain, or TMJ-related symptoms
Headache-related orofacial pain concerns
Bruxism, clenching, jaw overuse, or oral parafunction questions
Oral appliance comfort, function, or care-navigation concerns
Sleep-related breathing concerns involving oral appliance therapy
Review of prior records, imaging reports, or treatment history
Patients seeking guidance on what type of care may be appropriate next

Not Appropriate For

Urgent, emergency, or clearly in-person concerns.

Medical, dental, or psychiatric emergencies
Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms
Difficulty breathing, chest pain, sudden neurologic changes, or uncontrolled bleeding
Facial swelling, fever, spreading infection, or acute dental abscess concerns
Requests for definitive treatment that requires an in-person examination
Situations requiring immediate imaging, procedure, appliance fabrication, or urgent prescription management

Before Scheduling

Eligibility depends on location, consent, and clinical fit.

When the virtual consultation workflow launches, patients should review the eligibility requirements, virtual consultation terms, privacy information, and financial policies before scheduling.

01

Patient must be physically located in a state where Dr. Cheung is actively licensed at the time of the visit

02

Patient should understand that virtual care may require in-person follow-up

03

Patient should be prepared to provide accurate health, dental, medication, and symptom information through a secure workflow when available

04

Fees, visit length, and additional-time policies should be reviewed before scheduling

05

A doctor-patient relationship is not established until the required clinical workflow, consent, and acceptance into care are completed

Safety First

Virtual consultations have limits.

If symptoms are urgent, severe, rapidly worsening, or concerning for a medical or dental emergency, patients should seek immediate in-person emergency care rather than waiting for a virtual consultation.
