Virtual Consultation Terms

Important information before virtual care begins.

This page outlines the intended terms, limits, and patient responsibilities for future virtual orofacial pain consultations. It is provided for informational purposes and does not currently function as a signed telehealth consent form.

Purpose of virtual consultations

Virtual consultations are intended for focused guidance, records review, care navigation, and discussion of appropriate next steps for orofacial pain, TMJ disorders, jaw pain, facial pain, bruxism, oral appliance concerns, and sleep-related breathing concerns.

Limits of virtual care

Virtual consultations may not replace a complete in-person examination, dental examination, imaging, emergency care, or treatment that requires physical evaluation. Some patients may be advised to seek in-person care, imaging, medical evaluation, or referral.

State licensure and patient location

Virtual consultations are expected to be available only for patients physically located in states where Dr. Cheung is actively licensed and legally permitted to provide care at the time of the visit.

Emergency limitations

Virtual consultations are not for emergencies. Patients with severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, difficulty breathing, chest pain, sudden neurologic changes, uncontrolled bleeding, or other urgent concerns should seek emergency care immediately.

Technology and privacy

Future virtual consultations should take place through secure clinical workflows designed for telehealth, consent, privacy, payment, and documentation. Public website forms should not be used to submit protected health information unless a secure intake system is added.

Payment and additional time

Fees will be disclosed before scheduling. Initial consultations are expected to be scheduled for 30 minutes, follow-up visits for 15 minutes, and additional time may be offered in 15-minute increments only with patient consent before the visit is extended.

Patient Responsibilities

A safe virtual consultation requires clear expectations.

Before any future virtual consultation, patients should understand the purpose of the visit, the limits of remote care, and their role in providing accurate information.

01

Confirm current physical location at the time of the visit

02

Provide accurate health, dental, medication, and symptom information

03

Use a private location and reliable internet connection when possible

04

Understand that virtual care may require in-person follow-up

05

Seek emergency care when symptoms are urgent or severe

06

Review fees and financial terms before scheduling

Financial Terms

Clear fees before scheduling.

Future virtual consultations are expected to launch as a cash-pay service first. Fees will be disclosed before scheduling, and patients will have an opportunity to review the financial terms before agreeing to care.

Initial virtual consultations are expected to be scheduled for 30 minutes. Follow-up virtual visits are expected to be scheduled for 15 minutes. Additional time may be offered in 15-minute increments only when available and only with patient consent before the visit is extended.

HSA/FSA cards may be accepted for eligible clinical consultation services when available. Eligibility depends on the patient’s plan and tax situation.

Medical insurance billing may be considered later after the appropriate credentialing, billing, documentation, and payer workflows are established.

Important Notice

This page does not establish a doctor-patient relationship.

Viewing this page, reading these terms, or contacting Dr. Cheung does not establish a doctor-patient relationship. A doctor-patient relationship is only established after appropriate clinical evaluation, consent, acceptance into care, and completion of the required clinical workflow.
