Care Approach
Clarity first.
Function next.
Hope throughout.
Philosophy
Persistent pain can make everyday life feel smaller. It can affect eating, speaking, working, exercising, sleeping, and being present with family.
Dr. Andy Cheung’s approach begins with understanding the full pattern of symptoms, not simply chasing one isolated finding. The goal is to help patients understand what may be contributing to pain or dysfunction and develop a realistic plan forward.
Care is individualized and may involve conservative therapies, oral appliance care, medication management, behavioral strategies, physical therapy collaboration, or interdisciplinary referral when appropriate.
01
Listen carefully
Symptoms are reviewed in context, including pain history, jaw function, sleep, habits, stress, prior treatment, dental history, medical history, and patient goals.
02
Identify contributing factors
Orofacial pain often involves overlapping contributors from the jaw joints, muscles, nerves, teeth, sleep, posture, behavior, and broader health history.
03
Clarify the diagnosis
The goal is to move beyond vague explanations and help patients understand what may be driving their pain, dysfunction, or sleep-related concerns.
04
Create an evidence-based plan
Care may involve education, oral appliance therapy, medication management, physical therapy collaboration, behavioral strategies, imaging review, or interdisciplinary referral.
05
Support long-term function
The goal is not only symptom reduction, but improved function, confidence, self-management, and quality of life over time.
Care May Include
A plan shaped around the patient, not a template.
